One Year in Full Bloom: A Birthday Celebration for Our Sweet Girl

I can’t believe my sweet baby turned one last week! Since she’s a spring baby, I wanted to do a flower themed party for her. I have a tendency to go overboard when it comes to parties, so I really tried to keep this one reasonable! If I’ve learned anything as a hostess over the years, it’s where to put the details to make the most impact. This year I kept the food and decor simple, but put all my brain energy into making a cute dessert. But here’s the thing – these flower cupcakes were SO SIMPLE!

First, let me share my menu with you in case you need some party inspiration:

-Pulled pork with mini brioche slider buns

-chips and dip (our family prefers Heluva Good French Onion Dip)

-Grapes

-Sam’s Club Mac & Cheese (10x easier than making it myself)

-Spinach & Strawberry Salad (probably a recipe worth sharing with you someday)

-Chocolate covered strawberries with Oreo crumb topping

I made Joanna’s smash cake myself. I used Confetti box mix and Betty Crocker vanilla frosting. I used three 6” cake tins to stack and give it a tiered look, and added faux flowers for some glam.

Now for the main attraction…the cupcakes! These were so easy and they made such a big impact! I made a yellow cake box mix and used Duncan Hines chocolate frosting. Then I crushed up Oreos and sprinkled them on top to make it look like dirt. At first I just set the cupcake inside the fancy brown liner, but then I thought….I can do better. So I hopped on Amazon and found some small terracotta pots and they arrived just in time on the day of the party. I put the cupcake inside of the pot and added a single stem flower to each one, and BOOM….it looked like I spent all day working or paid a ton of money….and I didn’t do either. You could give these away as party favors, but I kept mine so I can use them for future parties! This is a super clever way to make an impact, enjoy!
